The following activities are carried out by the Testing and Assessment Unit:

  • writing and administering tests,
  • conducting reliability and validity analyses of the tests,
  • improving the tests based on the analysis results,
  • organizing standardization sessions for the productive skills of the tests,
  • designing workshops to familiarize the new coming staff with the testing process

Types of Tests

Placement Test:

All prospective School of Foreign Languages students are given the Placement Test in the first week of the academic year before classes start so that they can be placed in the appropriate program (Program 1, Program 2, Program 3, or Program 4) based on their level of English.

Level tests:

In all four programs, students take two quizzes, one midterm test, one final test, and one speaking test per semester. All level tests aim to measure the students' learning progress in their programs.

BUEPT:

Success at the end of the preparatory education is determined by the Boğaziçi University English Proficiency Test (BUEPT) given in the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. This test measures whether our students are proficient enough in English to start their studies in their departments. BUEPT consists of Listening, Reading, and Writing sections.
