Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where can I get my student card and e-mail address?

You can obtain your student card from the Student Affairs Office located on the South Campus. Your e-mail addresses are forwarded by our University to your e-mail address registered in the ÖSYM system.

 

2. Where can I get textbooks?

The textbooks to be used in the 2023-2024 academic year can be obtained from the Bookstore on North Campus.

 

3. What materials should I have with me in class?

It is very important that you have a dictionary, notebook, pencil and eraser with you in addition to your textbooks during the preparatory education. Please bring these materials with you in class to take notes of what is taught in class and to learn new words more effectively.

 

4. What happens if I exceed the attendance limit in Preparatory School?

If you exceed the attendance limit, you will be removed from the class lists and you will lose your right to attend classes and take midterm exams. Additionally, you will lose your right to enter the Winter and Spring BUEPT exams.

 

5. How can I view my attendance?

You can view your absence in the relevant menu after logging in to registration.boun.edu.tr.

 

6. Can I get exemption with TOEFL or IELTS exam even if I fail due to absenteeism?

Yes.

 

7. How can I follow important announcements such as exams, classes or course schedules?

All announcements concerning our students are announced on the YADYOK website and/or sent to our students by e-mail. Please do not rely on information obtained outside these channels.

 

8. I do not receive the e-mails sent from YADYOK. What should I do?

The e-mails sent by YADYOK are sent to your e-mail addresses specified as "Contact address" at registration.boun.edu.tr. It is very important that you change your e-mail account to your e-mail address with @boun.edu.tr extension and check your BOUN address regularly to receive announcements on time. Email systems such as Outlook or iCloud can block emails sent by our University. Therefore, it is important to use your official BOUN address.

 

9. I cannot access the Moodle system. What should I do?

In order to access the Moodle system, you must have a "Contact address" registered in the registration.boun.edu.tr system and an e-mail address with the @boun.edu.tr extension. After making this change, you will be able to access the system within 8 hours at most. If the problem still persists, contact the Information Technology Center.

 

10. Should I take the Placement Exam?

It is very important for you to take the Placement Exam in the year you will receive preparatory education in order to be placed at the right level. Since program changes will only be at the discretion of the course instructor and relevant units after the Placement Exam, it is very important that you registered in the correct level before the start of the semester.

 

11. I want to take a leave of absence for two semester, what should I do?

Please read the relevant section for the Leave of Absence procedure.

 

12. Are there additional lessons or courses available for remedial students?

Additional lessons or courses for remedial students may be opened depending on the course load of YADYOK English Preparatory Unit. When these courses are opened, students are informed through announcements on the YADYOK website.

 

13. Can I learn the numerical value of my BUEPT score?

The numerical value of the BUEPT score is not announced. Results are announced as letter grades only.

 

14. What should I do if the instructor does not come to class?

If the instructor does not come to the classroom within the first 15 minutes of the lesson, students are obliged to inform the Administration. In such cases, students are informed by the Administration or another instructor may attend the course. The instructor who takes over the course is also responsible for implementing the attendance process. In this context, students who are not in the classroom during attendance are marked as absent.
