Academic Integrity and AI Policy

Academic Integrity

Academic integrity is a concept which means that students or academicians act honestly, ethically and in accordance with academic rules in their work. This means providing information accurately and fairly, using sources with appropriate references, and not using the work of others without permission.

Academic integrity is a vital concept that is adopted as a principle in all courses at Boğaziçi University. Students are required not to use the work of others in their assignments without direct or proper references to the original author. Using the work of others without direct or proper referencing is called plagiarism. Plagiarism is considered a crime in the academic context.

Students are expected to adhere to the principles of academic integrity in all courses offered at Boğaziçi University. Within the framework of academic integrity, students are required to produce their own work and refrain from stealing or copying the work of others; Additionally, when using the work of others, they are expected to cite these sources appropriately.

You can find more information about citing through this resource on the website of Boğaziçi University Turkish Language and Literature Department.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

As a result of developments in recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) supported applications are becoming increasingly widespread. Consequently, AI-based applications have gained a place in the academic world and are used in the academic world, sometimes with positive and sometimes with negative consequences.

AI-based applications can be beneficial to students, but they can also be harmful and negatively affect the learning process. Therefore, it is important to determine how AI-based applications can be used beneficially by students. Using AI for the following purposes will negatively affect both your academic life and your English education:

  • completing your assignments directly through AI applications
  • correcting your errors directly through AI

At YADYOK, we also stress how crucial it is that students maintain ownership of their work. While AI tools can help with idea generation, writing, and research, students ultimately bear the responsibility for all academic work, including essays, research papers, and assignments. Rather than seeing AI as a replacement for critical thinking, analysis, and creativity, we urge students to see it as a tool to improve their learning and skills.

As per YADYOK regulations, homework and assignments completed via AI applications are not accepted for evaluation. More information regarding our Academic Integrity and AI Policy can be found on WASC website.
